Medical Staff

Our providers are skilled in a variety of medical specialties, as well as primary and urgent care. With access to in-house laboratory and medical imaging services, patients can expect to receive comprehensive care at any one of our practice locations. We are proud to serve the coastal communities of Eastern North Carolina with excellent medical care.

 

Dr. Ayers

Dr. John C. Ayers, Jr., Family Practitioner

John C. Ayers, Jr., MD, is a graduate of Duke University, in Durham, NC, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and his Medical Degree. Additionally, Dr. Ayers completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the Duke University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Family Practice and is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Babb

Dr. Tamara C. Babb, Family Practitioner

Tamara C. Babb, MD, is a graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC, where she received her Medical Degree. She completed her Family Practice Internship Residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Additionally, Dr. Babb completed her Fellowship at the Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute, in Pensacola, FL. Dr. Babb is a retired United States Navy Commander, and was the Chief of Staff at the Cherry Point Naval Hospital in Cherry Point, NC. Dr. Babb is board certified in Family Medicine. She is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, North Carolina Medical Society and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She was awarded as a Wing Senior Medical Officer, MCAS in Iwakuni, Japan and was also appointed the Resident Advisor to the Commission on Health Care Services and Liaisons to JHACO, from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Her clinical areas of interest include Aviation Medicine, Military Operational Medicine, Sports Medicine and Disaster Preparedness.

In her free time, Dr. Babb enjoys power boating, aviation, portrait art, gardening, cooking and entertaining.

Dr. Bender

Dr. Neil C. Bender, Internist

Neil C. Bender, MD, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, in Chapel Hill, NC, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, WA and his Internal Medicine Residency at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. He was the Assistant Resident in Medicine at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital and the Chief Medical Resident of Internal Medicine at the Charlotte Memorial Hospital, in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Bender is board certified in Internal Medicine and is the founder of Eastern Carolina Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, the Craven Pamlico Jones Medical Society, the NC Medical Society, and the NC Society of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bender has been awarded the 1999 Laureate Award of NC- Chapter of the American College of Physicians, the 2003 Distinguished Service Award from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, the 2003 Paul Harris Fellow Award, and the 2003 Rotary Foundation Award from Rotary International.

Dr. Cohen

Dr. Dean S. Cohen, DO,

Dean S. Cohen, DO, is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Chicago, IL, where he earned his medical degree. He completed his family practice residency and fellowship at Christ Hospital & Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He completed his internship at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH. He is board certified in Family Practice Medicine.

Dr. Creta

Dr. Michael Creta, Family Practitioner

Michael Creta, DO, is a graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Old Westbury, NY, where he earned his Degree in Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Creta completed his Osteopathic Internship and his Family Medicine Residency at the Long Beach Memorial Hospital, in Long Beach, NY. He is osteopathic board certified in Family Physicians and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Dr. Davis

Dr. Michael E. Davis, Internist

Michael E. Davis, MD, is a graduate of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, in Winston-Salem, NC, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Florida Health Center, in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Davis is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. DeSantis

Dr. Douglas H. DeSantis, Internist

Douglas H. DeSantis, MD, is a graduate of the SUNY College of Medicine, in Syracuse, NY, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internship at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, his Anesthesia Residency at New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, and his Internal Medicine Residency at the Syracuse Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY. Dr. DeSantis is board certified in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology.

Dr. Emmarino

Dr. Elissa A. Ermmarino, DO, Family Practitioner

Elissa A. Ermmarino, DO, is a graduate of the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, IA where she received her Medical Degree. She completed her Internship at the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY and completed her Family Practice Residency at Massapequa Medical Center, in Massapequa, NY. Dr. Ermmarino completed an additional Residency at the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine in Boca Raton, FL. She is a Master of Fitness Sciences and is a Specialist in Fitness Nutrition with the International Sports Sciences Association. Dr. Ermmarino is a member of the National Honor Society- PSI CHI and was awarded the Global Who’s Who. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the International Federation of Bodybuilding and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. Her clinical area of interest includes Preventive Health.

In her free time, Dr. Ermmarino enjoys general aviation, fine arts, and is a professional women’s figure athlete.

Dr. Farina

Dr. Nicholas Farina, Internist

Nicholas Farina, MD, is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in New York City, NY, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center, in Bronx, NY. Dr. Farina is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society and his clinical areas of interest include Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia and Preventive Care.

In his free time, Dr. Farina enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and scuba diving.

Dr. Gill

Dr. Brent R. Gill, Family Practitioner

Brent R. Gill, MD, is a graduate of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, in Newfoundland, Canada, where he earned his Medical Degree. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, Canada. Dr. Gill is a member of the American Medical Association, Canadian College of Family Physicians and was awarded the Hugh P. Bell Award from Dalhousie University. Dr. Gill's clinical areas of interest include Preventive Medicine and Infectious Disease.

In his free time, Dr. Gill enjoys sailing, golfing, studying history, reading and traveling.

Dr. Gintautiene

Dr. Kristina Z. Gintautiene, Internist

Kristina A. Gintautiene, MD, is a graduate of the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency, as well as her Geriatrics Fellowship, at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, NJ. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. Dr. Gintautiene is a recipient of the Eckerd Salute to Women 1999 Local Honoree Award. Her clinical interests include Geriatrics.

In her free time, Dr. Gintautiene participates in overseas medical volunteer work, and enjoys dancing, needlework, making pottery and stained glass, as well as cooking.

Dr. Healy

Dr. Paul J. Healy, Internist

Paul J. Healy, MD, is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, in Washington, DC, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC and began his General Surgery Residency at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke, VA, and completed it at the Duke University School of Medicine, in Durham, NC. Dr Healy completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. Additionally, he was the Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at the NC Baptist Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Healy is a Captain of the United States Air Force, honorably discharged. He has been awarded the United States Air Force Medal of Commendation, the Georgetown Clinical Society Award, and the Tactical Air Command General Surgeon's Award. His clinical interests include Diagnostic Testing, Diabetes Management, Smoking Cessation, and the Complex Management of Multiple Health Problems.

In his free time, Dr. Healy enjoys participating in the New Bern Area Soccer Association and the Twin Rivers YMCA as a volunteer coach. He is a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church and enjoys staying active and spending time with his family.

Dr. Lorio

Dr. William P. Lorio, Internist

William P. Lorio, MD, is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Internal Medicine Residency at the NC Baptist Hospital, in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Lorio is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the North Carolina Medical Society.

Dr. Moeller

Dr. Mark B. Moeller, Internist

Mark B. Moeller, MD, is a graduate of the Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH, where he earned his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease Residencies at the Duke University School of Medicine, in Durham, NC. Dr. Moeller is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. His clinical interests include Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension.

In his free time, Dr. Moeller enjoys bicycling.

Dr. Moore

Dr. George H. Moore, Family Practitioner

George H. Moore, MD, is a graduate of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, in Greenville, NC, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at the NC Baptist Hospital at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Moore is board certified in Family Practice and is a Fellow of the American Board of Family Practitioners. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Congress of Delegates for the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, the National Lipid Association and the North Carolina Medical Society.

Dr. Paul

Dr. Daniel E. Paul, Internist

Daniel E. Paul, MD, is a graduate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in New York City, NY. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He completed his Infectious Disease Fellowship at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Paul is board certified in Internal Medicine and is board eligible in Infectious Disease.

In his free time, Dr. Paul enjoys recreational crabbing.

Dr. Reardon

Dr. Michael L. Reardon, Internist

Michael L. Reardon, MD, is a graduate of the Ohio State University, College of Medicine, in Columbus, OH, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center, in Columbus OH.

In his free time, Dr. Reardon enjoys spending time with his family.

Dr. Rowe

Dr. Kristina D. Rowe, Internist

Kristina D. Rowe, MD, is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, in Farmington, CT, where she received her Medical Degree. She also completed her Internal Medicine Internship, as well as her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Rowe is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Abaroa-Salvatierra

Dr. Ana Abaroa-Salvatierra, Internist

Ana Abaroa-Salvatierra, MD earned her undergraduate and Medical Degrees at the Autonomus University of Guadalajara. Dr. Salvatierra completed a Fellowship in Endocrinology and is Board Certified in Mexico in Endocrinology. Following the completion of her training, she worked for nearly six years teaching and practicing as an Endocrinologist in Mexico before relocating to the United States. Dr. Salvatierra completed her Internal Medicine Residency here in the US at Reading Hospital / Jefferson University in Pennsylvania. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Dr. Ana Abaroa-Salvatierra is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Dr. Smith

Dr. John M. Smith, Internist

He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the NC Baptist Hospital, in Winston-Salem. Dr. Smith was the Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and a member of the North Carolina Medical Society. Dr. Smith was the Chief of Staff at Carolina East Medical Center from 2009-2011.

In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoys coaching youth sports, lifting weights and running.

Dr. Thomas

Dr. Raymond L. Thomas, Family Practitioner

Raymond L. Thomas, MD, is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, WA, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Residency in Family Practice at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, in Greenville, NC. He is a member of the North Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Thomas's clinical areas of interest include Primary Care and Adult Medicine.

Dr. Towarnicky

He completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, OH. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Nuclear Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and several others.

In his free time, Dr. Towarnicky enjoys coaching, spending time with his family, and sailing.

Walter S. Wardell, MD, is a graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Internal Medicine Residency at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. John H. Williams, Internist

John H. Williams, MD, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, in Chapel Hill, NC, where he earned his Medical Degree. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic, in New Orleans, LA and his Internal Medicine Residency at the Hartford Hospital, in Hartford, CT. Dr. Williams is board certified in Internal and Emergency Medicine.

Allison Tompkins

Allison A. Tompkins, PA

Allison A. Tompkins, PA, graduated from the Physician Assistant School at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. She also completed her Bachelors of Science in biology at Meredith College, in Raleigh, NC. She is CDL Medical Examiner certified and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
