Medical Staff

Our trained medical staff is here to provide your child with the best care possible. Our doctors have received advanced medical training in pediatrics and continually pursue ongoing education to stay on top of the latest treatment and practices in pediatric health care. Your child’s health care is as important to us as it is to you, and we look forward to providing your family with the exceptional medical care they deserve. Below you will find detailed information about each member of our medical staff.

 

Dr. Check

Dr. Nicole Check, Pediatrician

Nicole Check, MD, attended Campbell University,in Buies Creek, NC, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, Greenville, NC, where she earned her M.D. in 2012. She completed a three year residency at the University of Florida at Arnold Palmer Medical Center in Orlando.

Dr. Check is board certified in Pediatrics, and is a member of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Program Evaluation Committee.

Dr. Evans

Dr. Colin Evans, Pediatric Psychiatrist

Colin Evans, MD, is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Robert E. Cook Honors College, where he received a B.S. in Biochemistry, and Drexel University College of Medicine, where he received his Medical Degree. He completed a Psychiatric Residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Evans' was Chief Fellow during his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Evans memberships include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the North Carolina Medical Society.

He is married with four children, and in his spare time Dr. Evans enjoys watching sports, fishing, reading, and gardening.

Dr. Gordin

Dr. Kristi Dawn Gordin, Pediatrician

Kristi D. Gordin, MD, is a graduate of Berry College, where she received a B.S. in Biomolecular Science, and Morehouse School of Medicine, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed a Pediatric Residency at Duke University Medical Center in 2003. Dr. Gordin is board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society. She also graduated with honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

In her spare time, Dr. Gordin enjoys travelling, fitness, and gardening.

Dr. Mangun

Dr. Jennie Mangun, Pediatrician

Jennie Mangun, MD, is a graduate of Purdue University, where she received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, where she received her M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics. She received her Medical Degree. from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, where she also completed a Pediatric Residency in 1996. Dr. Mangun is board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and the North Carolina Medical Society. She is President of the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society, and has been on the board of directors for The Epiphany School of Global Studies in New Bern
since 2010. Dr. Mangun is married with two children. In her spare time, she enjoys home decorating, baking cakes, and gardening.

Dr. Riley

Dr. Rebecca Riley, Pediatrician

Rebecca Riley, MD, is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where she received a B.S. in both Chemistry and Biology, and the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed a Pediatric Residency at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina in 2005. Dr. Riley is a board certified in Pediatrics, as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society.

Dr. Riley is married with two children. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, camping, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Whaley

Dr. Marcus Craig Whaley, Pediatrician

Marcus C. Whaley, MD, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he received a B.A., and East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, where he earned his Medical Degree. He completed a Pediatric Residency at the University Health Systems of Eastern North Carolina in 2003, as well as a Sports Medicine Fellowship at East Carolina University and University Health Systems of Eastern North Carolina in 2004.

Dr. Whaley is board certified in Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, he is a member of the North Carolina Pediatric Society, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Craven/Pamlico/Jones Medical Society. Dr. Whaley also graduated with honors, in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a professional organization that recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine.
