ONCOLOGY & RADIATION ONCOLOGY
CarolinaEast Medical Center’s Oncology & Radiation Oncology provides the most advanced cancer care in the region, as accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. It was the first to offer life-saving radiation therapy to the area. Board certified radiation oncologists provide treatment for over 600 patients annually, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), the most advanced forms of the life-saving radiation treatments.
At CarolinaEast, we employ the latest technology available to help physicians discover cancers and begin planning a patient’s recovery. Our medical oncologists care for patients in a dedicated inpatient oncology unit, where certified oncology nurses understand the unique needs of cancer patients and their families. A patient and family resource room houses literature about the disease and offers Internet access to websites focused on the latest advances in cancer treatment and cures. When surgery is required, skilled surgeons and anesthesiologists perform complex procedures in a modern operating environment, complete with the latest in precision laser technology.
CarolinaEast Cancer Care provides treatment plans that are customized for individuals for a range of types of cancer. Treatment focuses on the type and stage of cancer, as well as the individual’s unique lifestyle and personal preferences. The goal of our medical oncologists is not just to shrink the cancer, but reduce the risk of complications from it and help patients not just survive, but thrive after their diagnosis.
Diagnostic Imaging is often the first step in the diagnosis of cancer. At CarolinaEast, we employ the latest technology available to help physicians discover cancers and begin planning the patient’s recovery. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) CT scanning, is recognized as the most advanced, effective non-invasive cancer diagnostic and staging tool. CarolinaEast Diagnostic Center offers the most advanced breast imaging solution with 3 Dimensional Mammography (tomosynthesis) - the ideal technology for the earliest detection of breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue and/or at high risk of breast cancer. When surgery is required, skilled surgeons and anesthesiologists perform complex procedures in a modern operating environment complete with the latest in precision laser technology.
Additionally, the CarolinaEast Cancer Center goes beyond the clinical and deep into the caring side of cancer diagnosis with the CarolinaEast Cancer Support Group, Gentle Yoga for People Living with Cancer, and the Look Good Feel Better programs to improve quality of life, physical, mental and spiritual well-being, and provide inspiration to our patients.
